Mt. KILIMANJARO THE ROOF OF AFRICA

MOUNT KILIMANJARO

Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak and the world’s tallest free-standing volcano, is a natural wonder that captivates adventurers from around the globe. It consists of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo (5,895m), the highest and still dormant; Mawenzi (5,149m), also dormant; and Shira (3,962m), which is extinct.

The origin of its name remains uncertain, but it is widely believed to be derived from a combination of the Swahili word Kilima (meaning "mountain") and the KiChagga word Njaro, which loosely translates to "whiteness"—hence, the name "White Mountain."

Spanning 1,712 km², Kilimanjaro was designated a National Park in 1973, officially opened for tourism in 1977, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. In 2013, it was further honored as one of Africa’s Natural Wonders.

Ascending to its snow-capped summit, soaring above the clouds, is more than just a physical challenge—it is a transformative journey that leaves an enduring impact on all who undertake it.
